My father often used to tell me about a great opera singer called Conchita Superiva. Conchita was a Spanish mezzo soprano from Andalucia. She became a famous opera singer, but sadly died in London when she was only 41 shortly after giving birth to a stillborn daughter.
This is a recording made in 1929 of Conchita Supervia begging Don Magnifico to take her to the ball.
