La Cenerentola — the overture

Operas often begin with an orchestral piece called an overture, and no composer is more famous for his overtures than Rossini. La Cenerentola begins with a beautiful example of a Rossini overture.

The link will show the overture on YouTube and provide you with some really interesting information about the opera. I was especially interested to learn that the bracelet was used instead of a glass slipper to conform to the moral standards of the times when the opera was first staged in 1817. Showing a girl’s ankle on stage would have been risky business!
