Don Magnifico is the father of Clorinda and Tisbe and the father of Tisbe and Clorindo. An absurd character, he appears in a foul mood and is furious to have been awakened from his dream.
His dream was about a donkey. At the end of the dream, Don Magnifico realizes that he is the ass in the story.
The dream’s ending is that one of his daughters will become a fertile queen.
This is a wonderful aria where Don Magnifico shows all his qualities — he’s overbearing, stupid, opinionated, and self-important.
